Bremen, Germany, *1955
Gerd Lieder studied theatre studies, art history and German at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich from 1979 to 1983.
In 1994 he created his first painting cycles on the theme of “Reflections”. Gerd Lieder travels the world with various mirrors in his luggage. His motifs are very different and arise spontaneously. He has remained true to the creation process to this day. From 1996 onwards, Gerd Lieder also dealt with water reflections, which gave his motifs a further, different depth.
Since 2000, Gerd Lieder has been intensively engaging with the visually experienced world. Often it is only short moments that he captures in his paintings. The reflections sometimes alienate the motifs so much that you need some time to understand what exactly is being depicted and you can hardly believe that Gerd Lieder captures his motifs in a realistic painting style.
Gerd Lieder's works have been exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions in Germany, the USA, Spain, Italy, Montenegro and Switzerland.
